The body of Eric J. Velie III, 25, of Hyde Park, was discovered around 8:45 a.m., Tuesday, July 23 at the Oakridge Plaza in Hyde Park, after officers responded to a report of a man unconscious on the ground, said Hyde Park Police Chief Robert Benson.

When police arrived at the plaza at 960 Violet Ave., they found Velie unconscious and not breathing.

"The male was lying in the corner of the parking lot and was deceased," the chief said.

There were no obvious signs of trauma.

The Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office has conducted and once a cause of death has been determined, the findings will be released, Benson said.

The case is still under investigation.

The Hyde Park Police are being assisted by the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations.

A memorial has been set up in a grassy area of the plaza. Visitors are invited to write a message on a notepad left at the scene.
